McGill University Archives Closed for the Holidays

Please note the University Archives will be closed for the holiday season from Monday, December 25, 2006 and will re-open on Wednesday, January 3, 2007.

Records Transfer Procedures

Attention McGill Staff

Please be advised that the Records Management Division of the University Archives is announcing crucial changes in records transfer procedures. Specifically, the Records Management Division will no longer accept transferred records without explicit prior authorization from Records Management staff. Authorization will take the form of a confirmation email, sent to your unit from the university's Records Analyst, upon receipt and review of the transfer documentation.

Documentation includes an accurate file list and supporting covering letter. Instructions for completing the file list can be found at http://www.archives.mcgill.ca/recmanage/recguide.htm Please note that any boxes received by the University Archives without the proper authorization will be sent back to your unit, at your unit's expense.

Due to space limitations, if you office is unable to arrange for transfer of approved records within one week of the approval date, please contact the McGill University Archives to reconfirm approval.

University Archives Back to Normal Office Hours

With the beginning of the new school year, the University Archives resume operating with the normal office hours – Monday - Friday, 9:00am - 12:30 pm, 1:45 pm - 4:45 pm.

University Archives Open on Summer Fridays

Summer Hours: The University Archives will be open on Fridays as well for the rest of the summer. The regular office hours – 9:00-12:30 and 1:45-5:00 – will be in effect.

Assessing the University Archives' Role in Acquiring Private Papers (Jan. 25, 2006)

Senior Archivist and Collections Manager Gordon Burr has written a report assessing the McGill University Archives' Role in Acquiring Private Papers.

The report, Private Holdings: Assessing the McGill University Archives' Role, focuses on the University Archives' past and current private collecting activities, while taking a closer look at possible future directions.
