Note on protected personal information

Certain digitized records contain black bars blocking protected personal information. Personal information contained in the McGill University War Records office is subject to Quebec legislation, An Act Respecting Access to Documents held by Public Bodies and the Protection of Personal Information. Under the Act, personal information refers to information in which a person may be identifiable. In general, this information may not be released unless consent has been obtained or the date of the information is more than thirty years from the person’s death. When the death is unknown, or the record contains health information, then the information may only be released 100 years from the date of the record.
